Capodimonte is an Italian place name that refers to a town and commune Lake Bolseno, an area of Naples which includes the Parco di Capodimonte, the Reggia di Capodimonte, the Observatory of Capodimonte, and the Capodimonte porcelain manufactory where "Capodimonte" is made. Founded in 1743 by the Spanish king Charles VII and his wife Maria Amalia, the Royal Factory of Capodimonte is famous for its sculptures made of soft past porcelain Capodimonte soft paste porcelain first rose to prominence in Florence between 1575 and 1597 when the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Francesco de Medici, created a small but highly prolific production known as " Medici Porcelain". Starting in the nineteenth century, the Capodimonte crown came into use. It continues to be used today.
