John Doulton founded Doulton Lambeth pottery in 1815 with John Watts.In 1858, John Doulton began experimenting with a more decorative pottery line.In 1878, Sir Henry Doulton, the second son of John Doulton, purchased Pinder, Bourne and Company of Burslem. In 1882, Doulton opened a second factory was built in Burslem which still continues to produce the famous figurines, jugs, and table wares.Now known as Royal Doulton, over 2000 different figures have been produced.
Historically, Royal Doulton has produced the Gibson Girl series, Dickensware pieces, the Robin Hood series, works based on Shakespeare's characters, the Nursery Rhymes series, and the Bunnykins series.Presently, Royal Doulton continues to offer the Bunnykins, and new series including Disney fairies, characters from Disney movies, four Disney princess (including Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Snow White, and Belle), Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, and, of course, its famous Pretty Ladies and Petites.
Royal Doulton is known for many other products that include fine China, casual dinnerware, crystal and glass, and designer China by Monique Lhuillier (for the formal table) and Gordon Ramsay (for every day).
